Wayne Condon - Our Legal Team & Professional Lawyers

WAYNE CONDON

The Principal of Condon Legal, Wayne Condon graduated from the University of Technology Sydney having been conferred with a Masters of Law, a Bachelors of Law and Graduate Certificate in Legal Practice. Since being admitted to practice as a Solicitor of the High Court of Australia in 2006, Wayne has also continued his education and has completed the training and qualified as an Independent Children Lawyer, a Nationally Accredited Mediator and a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. Wayne is also a registered Migration Agent and has been so since 2010, although from July 2018 lawyers will no longer need to be registered as Migration Agents but will be able to carry on our immigration work.

Whilst Wayne was studying Law at UTS, he was also working part time as a volunteer at the Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) Redfern. Once Wayne graduated and was admitted to practice as a solicitor, he was contacted by the ALS and offered a solicitors position which he eagerly accepted. During Wayne's 2 years with the ALS Wayne was appointed to the Mt Druitt Local Court. Whilst at Mt Druitt, it did not take long for Wayne to become heavily involved in a number of projects in the area, particularly relating to men's offending against women (domestic violence) as well as drug addiction. Wayne also was heavily involved in the development of a structure drop-in service for men under the auspices of Elder Teddy Hart. Wayne also invited the then Magistrates at Mt Druitt Court to take an active role, which both their Honours Magistrate McRae and Magistrate Toose did, and their contribution was a significant change factor in the attitude of how Aboriginal residents of the area viewed and interacted with the Legal Community. Wayne was also responsible for the Circle Sentence Program on behalf of the ALS, and again with both Magistrate McRae and Magistrate Toose, the Program was a great success. During Wayne's 18 month stint at Mt Druitt Court there was not a person who came for Circle sentencing who reoffended and returned to Court. Wayne was presented by the Chief Magistrate of New South Wales with a Certificate of Appreciation for his efforts at Mt Druitt, a certificate that hangs very proudly in the offices of Condon Legal, which Wayne opened in 2007 after leaving the ALS for that reason, to open his own practice.

Prior to commencing to study law in 2003 Wayne was working as Operations Director of DoCS (now known as FACS), a position he held for two years, and it was this position that Wayne decided to leave the work environment and attend University for three years full time study.

Prior to DoCS, Wayne was working for the Commonwealth Bank in a Senior Management role in head office in Pitt Street, Sydney where Gail Kelly was the Department Director. Wayne was with the Commonwealth Bank for a period of 5 years.

Wayne prior to the Commonwealth Bank started his financial career in Citibank in Margaret Street, Sydney. Wayne commenced with Citibank as a part-time outbound telemarketer working 20 hours per week whilst he was completing full time study at the Ryde College of Tafe to gain his Chef's ticket. During this time as an outbound telemarketer, Citibank promoted Wayne to a Team Leader and subsequently as Manager of both inbound and outbound telemarketing as well as entrusted Wayne to establish the still operating Retention Unit. In 2005 Citibank nominated Wayne for the Telstra Industry Awards and Wayne was successful in being awarded the Team Leader of the Year and as a result was placed in the National Awards along with the other state and territory winners. Wayne was awarded the National Team Leader of the Year.

Since leaving school Wayne has always had a keen interest in Social Work and in the mid 80's he achieved a Diploma in Welfare Studies from Newcastle University and then 2 years later he went on to enroll again in Newcastle University, and graduated with a Bachelor of Social Sciences.

During Wayne's time at Newcastle University, he became heavily involved in the Drug Rehabilitation area and was appointed to the board of the We Help Ourselves Fellowship when they were located in Braidwood, near Canberra. Wayne remained a board member for 2 years and was heavily involved in fundraising for the Long Term Rehabilitation Centre which operated out of an old disused Convent. Wayne also took a very pro-active role with assisting the residents completing the program and their transition back into the community. Wayne was also heavily involved in providing youth services patricianly to homeless youth, and was the Chairperson of the Newcastle Youth Accommodation Services for several years. Wayne was also involved in assisting clients with Mental Health Issues and was on a number of Community Committees.

Wayne had the pleasure of meeting and working with the Reverend Ted Noffs from Wayside Chapel in Kings Cross, Sydney, where Wayne worked as a Shepherd of the Street under the supervision of the Reverend Bill Crews of 2GB, and the Patron of Fishes and Loafs at Ashfield.

Wayne has also worked as a teacher at various TAFE colleges teaching Conveyancing, and Legal Practice, as well as Call Centre, and Marketing subjects.

Wayne's further qualification includes a Diploma in Call Centre Management and he was the first student to attain this award at the George Street, Sydney TAFE Campus.

As you can see from the above, Wayne has gained some very invaluable experience in all the areas of work in which he has participated. Wayne expresses that he has been blessed to have had such a varied work history, as this has allowed him to gain knowledge and experience in a number of different areas which has enabled him to assist in the empowering of other people. Wayne takes a great deal of comfort and joy in knowing that maybe in some small way he has been able to assist a person in need to accept and overcome their position, and move forward positively into their future.

Of more recent times Wayne has been assisting where he can people who through no fault of their own find themselves displaced from their homeland, being refugees and assisting them in their search for a safe place for them to call home. For instance, Wayne most recently assisted a Syrian refugee who was based in Moscow, but was being forced to be returned to Syria, at a time when the ISIS crisis was at a fever pitch level. This matter is a rather interesting tale and involved all sorts of negotiations, and Wayne flying to Moscow (Russia), Stockholm (Sweden), Vilnius (Lithuania), Warsaw (Poland), and Istanbul (Turkey), the end result being refugee status being granted in Poland. One of the persons assisted is now currently employed in a worldwide organisation in Geneva, and has been so since November 2015. Also of more recent time, Wayne has traveled to Lebanon and currently has a number of matters where native Lebanese/newly-displaced settlement persons from Syria are seeking assistance with regards to migration matters.

Condon Legal has a non-discriminatory policy, that is, there is no form of discrimination which is acceptable whether it be on Race, Colour, Religion, Sexuality, or any other category, which is why Condon Legal is known for the diversity of work it receives.
